Dear Families,

As we near the end of of the 2018-2019 school year, I wanted to make you aware of the various opportunities that Region 6 will be offering over the summer months in order to support your child’s continued engagement with mathematics.

  • New this year for students who are entering 7th grade will be a one week Summer Bridge Program at Wamogo during the week of July 29th that will offer experiences in mathematics, ELA, and robotics.

  • Returning for its second year will be Region 6’s Summer Math Passport, that invites families to visit area businesses collecting stamps in their passport as students entering grades 1 through 7 to solve problems that have to do with each business.

  • Region 6’s Summer Math Calendars will be available online for students entering grades 1 through 7.  These calendars include engaging, ongoing practice over the summer months with problem solving, computation, and math facts that will maintain and strengthen the mathematical gains your child has made over the school year.

  • The Commissioner’s Summer Math Challenge will also be making a return with its computer based program that focuses on weekly math concepts while students complete tasks to earn badges for participation.

We recognize that there is not a one-size fits all approach when choosing a program to support your child’s needs in mathematics over the summer months and are asking you to choose what best suits your child and family.  Whether your child participates in one, two, or even all of these programs, your child will be able to more adequately maintain their math skills over the summer months. Your support in this initiative is greatly appreciated. Details about the programs and opportunities mentioned above will be coming out prior to the end of the school year.

Please reach out to me with any questions about these summer math programs.
