Dear Families,

Flu season is among us. To prevent widespread flu in the school, we recommend that your child stay home from school if experiencing any flu or cold symptoms.

Here are some tips to remember throughout this winter season:

WASH, WASH, WASH YOUR HANDS! This is still the best defense against illness. Encourage your children to wash, especially before meals, using soap and warm water. To ensure they are taking enough time to adequately kill germs, have them sing the ABC song while scrubbing.

Get plenty of rest. School-age children should get 9-11 hours of sleep each night. Grownups should try to get 8 hours.

Drink lots of fluids and eat a balanced diet - especially breakfast!

Dress appropriately for cold weather. Please help your child choose warm, comfortable clothing for school each day, including socks. Make sure they are wearing a coat, a hat and gloves. Even in cool weather they still need exercise and fresh air and will continue outdoor recess when appropriate.

Please keep in mind the guidelines below when deciding if your child should come to school. Any child with the following symptoms should stay home:

-A fever of 100 degrees or higher. A child should not come back to school until the temperature is normal for 24 hours without medication.

-vomiting or diarrhea

-a frequent cough

-any rash accompanied by a fever

-ear pain and/or eye drainage

-sore throat with a fever and/or rash

Please call if you have any questions or would like to discuss your child's illness. Have a safe and HEALTHY winter!

Thank you,

Carly Goodwin

Dear Region 6 Community,

In November the community, at referendum, approved a change to the Region 6 Education Plan ("The Charter") to allow for 6th grade students to attend middle school at WAMOGO starting with the 2021-2022 school year.

While this date is over 18 months in the future, this is not an event, but rather a process that must include students, staff, parents, and community.

The following is a link to the Middle School Implementation Plan that was approved last night by the Board of Education: MS Implementation Plan Presentation

I will keep everyone informed of our shared work as we move forward over the coming months.

I look forward to this opportunity to lead the work and enhance the education for our students.

Dear GCS Families,

Please read the following policy regarding the administration of medication as found in the region 6 handbook.

Now that the snow has arrived, our staff, families, and I will greatly appreciate your help reinforcing with your child(ren) the following important items:

  • Our goal is to have outdoor recess as often as possible. Students' clothing choices should be made with the assumption that they will be outside.

  • In order to play in the snow, students must be dressed in appropriate attire (e.g. boots, gloves/mittens, snow jacket, waterproof pants). Students whose clothing is not deemed by the staff to be appropriate for the snow will be restricted to the blacktop area of the playground for recess.

Attention GCS Parents

We are excited to announce that we will be using Membership Toolkit for our Directory, Volunteer Sign Ups and Communications starting with the 2019-2020 school year.

We invite you to visit https://gcspto.membershiptoolkit.com/home to see everything your PTO has to offer this year. Once you create a Membership Toolkit Account, you will have access to upcoming calendar events, sign up to volunteer, class directories and much, much more.

Here's what you need to do:

  • Go to https://gcspto.membershiptoolkit.com/home.

  • Click on the Register/Login button.

  • Select "Create Account" and fill in the name, email, and password information.

  • Click "verify my email" and then check your email for a link to complete the process. The link expires in 2 hours. If you do not receive the email, check your spam or junk folders.

  • Once you have verified your email address, log back in and finish the registration process.

  1. Complete the Parent/Family and Student Information.

  2. Complete the Directory/Publish Preferences.

  3. Once these forms are complete, you will be presented with forms for Signups.

Once the Primary Account is set up, the Primary User can "invite" other email addresses to access his/her account. This allows the Secondary User to have their own login information, but still have access to the family account.

Pick Up Dismissal Procedures

Please continue to use the dismissal procedure that is currently in place. Dismissal is still in the cafeteria, but we ask that you do not arrive any earlier than 3:25 for pick up. Students will be dismissed one at a time at the cafeteria door and there will be no need for the parent/guardian to enter the building. This new dismissal procedure is in effort to make the pick up process go smoothly, quickly and as safely as possible. Please make note, that dismissal changes need to be mailed or called in to the office by 11:00am the day of the dismissal change. This will ensure that your child will be dismissed to the proper location.
